Our Loungewear: A short introduction

At Christakis Athens we may be famous mostly for our bespoke and ready-to-wear shirts, but many of our loyal customers find it hard to resist our handmade loungewear. In fact we have been making pyjamas, smoking jackets and dressing gowns practically since we started making shirts. We always seek to combine style with quality materials and artisanal craftsmanship. Thus our handmade pyjamas are made of the same luxury fabrics as our shirts. Whether it is an extrafine cotton poplin, a beautiful twill or a warm cotton-wool flannel, your new pyjamas will make you feel comfortable and elegant. For an added flair go for the mercerised cotton pyjamas with their silky touch and refined prints.

Once only worn by a small elite, the dressing gown is now considered one of the most dapper in-house garments. Truth is, the sight of a gentleman greeting his guest wearing his “robe de chambre” above a soft poplin shirt and tie is as debonair as it gets. Just have a look at Hollywood’s most iconic actors or those of the golden era of Greek cinema. Their elegance is apparent.

An item with an interesting history is the smoking jacket. Firstly made in the 19th century, it used to be worn by gentlemen for the purpose of tobacco smoking. Christakis smoking jackets are shorter than our dressing gowns and they have buttons instead of a belt.

In addition, for the summer we have recently launched the “Nissa” dressing gown. It is not meant to make you warmer, but to provide you with a nonchalance during your summer holiday. Thus its description as ‘Resort wear’. Wear it with your swimming trunks and be stylish dawn til dusk.

One should note that all loungewear should be worn with a slightly more relaxed fit than other garments. Freedom of movement, comfort and softness are the go-to attributes.
